Network Revenue shows how much renters are spending on the network. It is calculated directly from the contracts on the blockchain and it represents real-world usage and blockchain adoption. Blockchain analysts and comparison websites (as Messari and The Web3 Index), have recently started to rely on Revenue (also called Fees) to estimate a network's intrinsic value, as it is more accurate than traditional indexes as market cap.

In Sia, Revenue is calculated as the USD value of the fees paid by renters on file contracts: payouts to hosts, fees that get burnt instead of paid to to host (when the host fails its obligations) and other network fees (SiaFund fees and miner fees). It does not consider the unused allowance returned to the renter at the end of the contract.

These figures are not identical to Host Profitability , as the latter just considers payouts to hosts from succeeded contracts. In simple terms, Revenue is what renters spend, while Profits is what hosts get paid.
